1. Tailors Bunion

What is it?
  • Also known as “Bunionette”lumps n bumb
  • A Tailors Bunion is a prominence of the bone at the base of the little toe.
  • Tailor’s Bunions are not as common as bunions, which occur on the inside of the foot, but they are similar in symptoms and causes.

What causes it?

  • Often it is caused by an inherited faulty mechanical structure of the foot.
  • This causes changes to occur in the foot’s bone structure, which results in the development of an enlargement.
  • This bump can become irritated whenever a shoe presses against it, producing constant rubbing and pressure.
How can I fix it?
  • Make an appointment to see one of our Podiatrists at Barefeet Podiatry.
  • Unfortunately the only way to get rid of a Tailors Bunion is surgery, HOWEVER there are many ways to relieve symptoms and avoid further progression.

  • Footwear- We can help advise you on the best footwear options available. Choose shoes with a wide toe box, and avoid shoes with pointed toes or a high heel.
  • Orthotic therapy (either custom or off the shelf orthotics- we sell both!)

2. Haglunds Deformity

  • Often known as “pump bump”
  • Bony enlargement on the back of the heel  which can become quite painful and irritated if the area rubs up against any type of footwear.
  • It can lead to a condition known as “Bursitis”. Bursitis is an inflammation of the bursa (a bursa is a fluid-filled sac between the tendon and the bone).
