Achilles Tendinosis
What is it?
Achilles Pain is inflammation, irritation and swelling of the Achilles tendon at the attachment to the calcaneus. There are two types;
1. NON-INSERTIONAL ACHILLES TENDINOPATHY- caused predominately by excessive pronation (Rolling in of the foot)
2. INSERTIONAL ACHILLES TENDINOPATHY- caused predominately by supination (Rolling out of the foot).
As shearing and tractional forces are placed on the Achilles tendon, inflammation can occur at the attachment to the calcaneus (heel bone).
